Chilly start in the teens this A.M…
But the ✨MAJOR C🥶LD OUTBREAK✨ is coming next week!
Arriving on Dolly Parton’s Birthday (this Sunday) the Polar Vortex dives down into our neck of the woods.
This will send temps as low as 30°+ BELOW average for the southern Plains, Midwest and parts of the South, including the TN Valley. The big story is what we know, which is the incoming Arctic Air. Locally in the TRI Highs will struggle to get into the teens with Lows near zero if we get a clear sky, otherwise single digits area wide expected Monday — Thursday morning of next week.
☃️Winter Storm? 🤔 The pattern is right and models have been coming around this week to the idea of a Gulf Low pressure system impacting at least parts of the Deep South with a Winter Storm set-up. Most models have us on the northern end of that over riding moisture. That doesn’t mean it won’t SN❄️W here, just may not be as much as other parts of the Southeast…
Something I’ll be watching closely with every run of the model ensembles. It’s got almost a week, so a lot can change! Silver lining — this Friday will allow some dry time before Saturday’s rainfall, so get out and finish winterizing your home and business.
January Thaw Friday and Saturday with highs feeling like a heat wave, or closer to average. That’s how cold we’ve been this month. The 11th Coldest Start to January in the TRI and C🥶LDEST it’s been since 2010. 👀
Average High in the TRI: 46° and Average Low: 26°.
