SUNDAY’S ‘TTT’: TYPE / TIMING / TRAVEL

🌨️1) TYPE: As mentioned last evening, the change over from rain to SN❄️W will make travel even more treacherous tonight. We will have rain falling on the leading edge of a flash freeze and any pretreatment to roads will wash off this morning.

🕚2) TIMING: As temps crash through the 30s, we will be below freezing by lunchtime even in the TRI, and teens later on this evening. 🥶

So J❄️E … When’s It Gonna SN❄️W?!?

BEST Timing for the white stuff area wide will arrive after 10am hour through 3pm. Then, expect scattered SN❄️W squalls that will take us into the evening hours, as up-slope SN❄️W takes over and gives our western facing slopes a moderate SN❄️Wfall of 3”-7”+. The Smokies will certainly be in the Double-Digit category, places like Mt. LeConte, as well as Carvers Gap, up Roan Mtn. Again, most of the valley floor, including the TRI will see around an inch or M❄️RE… A burst of moderate SN❄️Wfall by early afternoon will give us the majority of our accumulation. Visibility could be greatly reduced from 11am till 2pm. Some could see upwards of a few inches out of this band of moderate to locally heavy SN❄️Wfall…

‼️3) TREACHEROUS TRAVEL: Rain to SN❄️W and flash freeze potential will all lead to treacherous travel by mid-to-late afternoon. Even if the SN❄️W has temporarily stopped falling where you are later today, trust me — it will be slick. Temps will nose dive to an overnight Low in the single digits. Wind chill factors could be as low as -20° in the mountains, if not C🥶LDER! Hypothermia is a concern for any exposed skin tonight. Limit your time playing in the SN❄️W and dress in multiple layers as this brutal cold sets into our region.

Use caution if you have to be out this afternoon. 🙏🏻
